Made for More

We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. Colossians 1:9a-10

Years ago, "Follow your passion" became the rallying cry of an entire generation. Quit the job. Start the business. Chase the dream. Do what makes you come alive.

Then, somewhere along the way, many Christians pushed back. "Don't follow your passion," they said. "Just follow Jesus."

Somehow, we began treating those two ideas as opposites—as if pursuing what God placed in our hearts competed with pursuing Him. As if following Christ meant becoming less creative, less adventurous, or less alive.

But that isn't the God we meet in Scripture.

Paul prayed that believers would know God's will, grow in spiritual wisdom, and live lives that honored Him by producing good fruit. Following Jesus was never meant to stay inside church walls. It reaches into every corner of our lives.

He wants to walk with you into all of it.

Your work. Your marriage. Your parenting. Your friendships. Your hobbies. Your business. Your creativity. Your dreams.

The God who created music created musicians. The God who designed breathtaking mountains created artists. He formed teachers to shape young minds, nurses to care for hurting people, business owners to lead with integrity, coaches to build perseverance, writers to encourage weary hearts, and countless others to reflect His character in unique ways.

Those gifts aren't competing with your faith.

They're opportunities to live it.

Sometimes we've treated our talents as separate from our calling, as if God only cares about the "spiritual" parts of our lives. But what if your passion is part of the assignment? What if the thing that makes you come alive is one of the ways God designed you to reflect His character and bless the people around you?

I once came across a quote by Robby Dawkins that I've never forgotten: "God's gift to us is ability; our gift to God is availability." God gives us talents, passions, opportunities, and dreams. Our part is simply to place them in His hands. Sometimes He redirects them. Sometimes He expands them. But He always redeems what we've surrendered to Him.

Psalm 37:4 says, "Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires." That doesn't mean He grants every wish exactly as we imagine it. As we delight in Him, He shapes our desires to reflect His—and sometimes we discover He planted those dreams there all along.

Don't dismiss what God has placed inside you because you think you're too old, too late, too ordinary, or too busy. Place it in His hands and watch what He does with it.

You don't have to choose between loving Jesus and pursuing what He placed inside you.

The dreams God gives are always safest in the hands of the God who gave them.

You are loved
