Knit Together

I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God's mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:2-3 NLT

Paul wrote these words from a prison cell.

He wasn't asking for sympathy. He was fighting for the hearts of believers he'd never even met.

False teachers had convinced some that Jesus wasn't enough—that they needed Jesus plus something else. More rules. More rituals. More secret knowledge.

Paul's answer was simple:

Jesus plus nothing is everything.

Then he gave them one more safeguard against deception: stay closely connected to one another. Hearts that are isolated are far easier to deceive.

That's still true today.

God never intended for us to follow Jesus alone.

Left to ourselves, our fears grow louder, our doubts feel more convincing, and it's surprisingly easy to believe lies about God, about ourselves, or about the people around us. We all need someone who will gently remind us what's true when we've forgotten.

That's why Scripture describes the church as a body, a family, a flock...never a collection of people living independent spiritual lives.

Think of a single strand of thread. By itself, it can break with very little pressure. But weave thousands of strands together, and they become something remarkably strong and beautiful.

That's what God does with His people.

He takes your story and mine—the victories, the failures, the joys, the heartbreaks—and weaves them together into something none of us could become alone. We carry one another's burdens. We celebrate one another's victories. We speak truth when someone is losing hope. We remind each other to keep our eyes on Jesus.

That's how faith grows.

If you've been trying to walk this journey by yourself, don't.

Find people who love Jesus. Open your heart. Share your story. Let others strengthen your faith, and be willing to strengthen theirs.

Because one strand may snap.

But strands woven together become a tapestry that displays the faithfulness of God.

The Master Weaver has never wasted a single thread.

Because your faith was never meant to stand alone.

Neither were you.

You are loved!
