Held Like a Crown

The Lord will hold you in his hand for all to see—a splendid crown in the hand of God. Isaiah 62:3 NLT

Crowns are not ordinary objects.

Throughout history, crowns have symbolized honor, beauty, victory, and authority. They were crafted with great care and treated as treasures.

No king tossed his crown aside or hid it away in shame. A crown represented something precious.

And Isaiah says that is how God holds His people.

Not with reluctance.

Not with disappointment.

Not as burdens He wishes would behave better.

He holds them like a splendid crown in His hand.

That image is beautiful. But there's another phrase tucked into the verse that is easy to miss.

"For all to see."

God is not ashamed of His children.

He does not hide those He has redeemed.

He does not love us privately while wishing we were someone else.

He delights in us.

Yet how often do we live as though the opposite were true? We know our failures. We know the prayers we should have prayed, the words we wish we could take back, and the countless ways we still fall short. We imagine God tolerating us rather than delighting in us.

But Scripture paints a different picture.

The God who knows you completely also treasures you completely.

Not because you have earned His affection.

Not because you finally got your act together.

Not because you have somehow become impressive.

Because you belong to Him.

That's why you can stop exhausting yourself trying to prove your worth.

You do not have to convince God to cherish what He has already called precious.

You do not have to earn what grace has already given.

And you do not have to spend your life wondering whether you are enough.

The King of Heaven has already answered that question.

Not by placing a crown on your head.

But by holding you in His nail-scarred hand for all to see.
