Does the Devil Know Your Name?

Suddenly, a man in the synagogue who was possessed by a demon cried out, "Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" Luke 4:33-34 NLT

As Jesus taught in the synagogue at Capernaum, a man possessed by an unclean spirit suddenly cried out, "Have you come to destroy us?"

That little word says a lot.

The demon wasn't speaking only for himself. He was speaking for the kingdom of darkness.

Demons are real spiritual beings who rebelled against God, follow Satan, and continue to oppose God's kingdom today. They knew exactly who Jesus was. They knew His name, His authority, and that He had come from the Father. They also knew their defeat was certain.

Long before many people recognized Jesus as the Messiah, the demons already knew.

That made me wonder:

Does the devil know my name?

Not because I'm powerful.

Not because Satan fears me.

But when the enemy looks at my life, does he recognize the fingerprints of the One who holds my heart?

James reminds us, "So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7 NLT)

The authority has never belonged to us. It belongs to Jesus.

But it's possible to call ourselves Christians without making much impact on the kingdom of darkness. We attend church, read our Bibles, and pray—but never step into the work God has called us to do.

Jesus didn't save us to sit comfortably on the sidelines.

He calls us to serve when it's inconvenient, forgive when it's undeserved, love when it's difficult, speak the truth with grace, pray boldly, and share the hope of the gospel. Every act of obedience points someone to Christ and pushes back the darkness.

After Jesus rebuked the demon and commanded him to leave, the people were amazed because even the evil spirits obeyed Him. Luke tells us that the news about Jesus spread far beyond Capernaum to every village in the region.” (Luke 4:37)

That's still His plan today.

Jesus chooses ordinary people like you to carry His name wherever you go.

The demon looked at Jesus and declared, "I know who you are."

May you live so closely with Christ that His character leaves unmistakable fingerprints all over your life.

The goal isn't for the devil to know your name.

It's for him to recognize whose you are.

You are loved!
