Comfort In. Comfort Out.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4
There was a time when nearly every prayer I prayed sounded the same.
"Lord, please change my circumstances."
I wanted Him to rescue my daughter from her addiction to alcohol. I wanted Him to calm the anxiety that had taken my heart hostage. I wanted life to feel safe again.
Instead, God began changing me.
Those years were some of the hardest of my life. Fear became an unwelcome companion, and I often wondered if I would ever breathe freely again. I asked God to remove the storm, but instead He met me in it. Day by day, Scripture steadied me. His presence strengthened me. His comfort carried me when I had nothing left to give.
Looking back, I can see something I couldn't see then.
God wasn't only carrying me through the storm.
He was preparing me to walk someone else through theirs.
At the time, I thought He was simply answering the prayer I needed most. But He was also preparing me to comfort others. The comfort He gave me was never meant to stop with me.
God teaches us to encourage the weary by faithfully walking with us when we are the weary one.
I would never choose to relive those years. But I would never trade what God produced through them. The compassion I have today, the words He gives me to encourage hurting people, and the hope I now carry were all forged in a season I desperately wanted to escape.
Maybe you're praying for God to remove your storm today.
Keep praying.
But don't miss what He may also be doing in you.
The comfort He is pouring into your heart today may become the very comfort that steadies someone else tomorrow.
Jesus never wastes suffering surrendered to Him. He comforts us, strengthens us, and then, in His perfect timing, He sends us back into the world carrying hope for others.
One day, you'll discover that the chapter you wished had never been written...
became the chapter God used to help someone else keep turning the page.
You are loved!
