Before You Were Born

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. … You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11,13

Jeremiah 29:11 is one of the most beloved verses in the Bible. We print it on coffee mugs, graduation cards, and wall décor. But these weren't words spoken during a season of peace.

God's people were living in exile in Babylon—far from home, unsettled, and living a story they never would have chosen.

And that's where God said, I know the plans I have for you.

Not after life improved.

Not once everything made sense.

Right there in the middle of the waiting.

The word plans means far more than the way we use it today. It speaks of God's thoughts, intentions, and purposes. He was reminding His people that their lives had not slipped outside His care. Their Creator still held the blueprint.

Psalm 139 also speaks of this truth. Every one of our days was written in God's book before one of them came to be. Before your first breath. Before your greatest joy. Before the heartbreak that blindsided you.

Nothing has ever caught God by surprise.

Sometimes we read Jeremiah 29:11 as a promise that life will be easy. But if you keep reading, God tells His people to build houses, plant gardens, raise families, and seek the good of the very city where they were living.

In other words, don't put your faith on hold while you're waiting for God to move.

Wholeheartedly seeking God is more than asking Him to fix your circumstances. It's pursuing Him in the middle of them.

It looks like opening your Bible when anxiety tells you to spiral. Praying honestly instead of pretending you're okay. Obeying what God has already said, even when you can't see what He's doing. Worshiping while you wait. Trusting His character when life feels confusing.

Then, you will find Him.

Sometimes God's greatest work isn't changing our circumstances immediately. It's changing us within them—deepening our roots, strengthening our faith, and teaching us that His presence is more dependable than the answers we've been chasing.

The God who wrote your story before you were born is still faithfully writing it today.

Trust the Author—even when you can't see the next chapter.

You are loved!
