The Jesus Filter

"We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV

The enemy rarely starts with outrageous lies. If he did, we'd recognize them immediately.

Instead, he whispers,

“You're not enough…God is disappointed in you…Nothing will ever change…You're alone…The worst is inevitable.”

A lie believed becomes a foothold. And if Satan discovers that particular lie works, he'll keep returning to it. One lie becomes two. Two become ten. Before long, what was once an occasional thought becomes a settled belief.

That's how strongholds are formed—not all at once, but one lie at a time. We become so accustomed to hearing the enemy's voice that fear, shame, condemnation, and hopelessness begin to sound like truth.

But God never intended for us to simply accept every thought that enters our minds.

Paul tells us to take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. In other words, we run them through what I like to call the Jesus Filter.

The enemy can scream his lies all day long, but they only take root when we agree with them. Every thought that enters our minds must first pass through the truth of God's Word. If it doesn't line up with what Jesus says, it doesn't belong.

If the enemy whispers: "You're not enough."

The Jesus Filter says: "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

If the enemy says, "You're alone," the Jesus Filter reminds us, "I will never fail you. I will never abandon you" (Hebrews 13:5).

If he says, "God is disappointed in you," truth answers, "There is now no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1).

If he says, "Nothing will ever change," God's Word reminds us that "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion" (Philippians 1:6).

Truth has always been the answer to lies.

The enemy whispers one lie at a time.

God answers with truth.

So don't lose heart if you have to keep running those thoughts through your Jesus Filter. God doesn't mind reminding you of the same truths again and again. And the more you practice recognizing His voice, the fewer lies you'll believe.

You're not failing. You're learning to recognize His voice. And eventually, the lies that once sounded like truth begin to lose their power.

Because truth always wins.
