Dig In

For the Lord your God is going with you. He will fight for you against your enemies, and He will give you victory. Deuteronomy 20:4 NLT

I have participated in enough tug-of-war contests to know two things.

First, whoever put me on their team clearly wasn't choosing based on upper-body strength.

Second, somebody was probably ending up face-first in the mud.

Tug-of-war has been around for thousands of years. Two teams. One rope. Everyone leaning hard in opposite directions. Hands burning. Feet digging in. Muscles straining.

And usually at least one poor soul wondering how mud got in places mud should not go.

Life can feel a lot like that.

Because this world tugs hard.

It tugs hard on your attention. On your priorities. On your thoughts. On your heart.

Advertisements tell you that you need more. Social media tells you everyone else is happier. Fear tugs one way. Pride tugs another. Temptation pulls. Distractions pull. Worry pulls.

And sometimes you can feel the tension.

Every believer knows what it's like to feel pulled in two directions.

But unlike a game of tug-of-war, Jesus isn't standing on one end of the rope hoping you'll pull hard enough.

You’re on the same team.

He's your anchor. He's your strength. He's the One who fights for you.

Hebrews says we have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure (Hebrews 6:19). When everything around you is pulling in the wrong direction, you don't need more willpower as much as you need to lean harder into the One who never moves.

Because this world tugs hard.

But Jesus holds harder.

That doesn't mean you won't have sore muscles. You may collect a few blisters along the way. You might even find yourself sitting in a muddy heap of regret from time to time.

We've all had those moments.

But the enemy doesn't get the final victory.

The Savior who died for you and rose again doesn't let go of the rope. He picks you up, brushes off the mud, and reminds you that the battle ultimately belongs to Him.

So when fear tugs, temptation pulls, and worry threatens to drag you off course, dig in and lean hard into Jesus.

Because this world tugs hard.

But Jesus holds harder.

And He never lets go.
