Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.” John 6:29 NIV

The crowd had watched Jesus feed thousands of people with a boy's small lunch. The miracle was astonishing, but instead of asking how they could know Him more deeply, they asked a different question: "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

That sounds a lot like us.

We assume God has a checklist for each one of us. Read your Bible. Check. Pray. Check. Serve others. Check. Be kind. Check. Don’t use curse words. Check.

Many of us spend our lives trying to earn what Jesus already came to give.

But Jesus answered with something they never expected—the work of God is to believe in Me.

Not perform.

Not prove yourself.

Believe.

The word believe isn’t simply agreeing Jesus existed. Biblical belief is trusting Him so completely that you place the full weight of your life into His hands.

Paul makes it clear in Romans 10:9 that saving faith begins in the heart and is confessed with the mouth. It's more than speaking the right words. It's surrendering your life to the One who gave His life for you.

When that kind of faith takes root, it cannot stay hidden. A heart that truly believes begins to speak differently, love differently, forgive differently, and live differently.

Obedience doesn't produce saving faith.

Saving faith produces obedience.

Surrender has always been harder than striving. Our pride would rather contribute to our rescue than simply receive God's grace.

That’s the beautiful paradox of the gospel: the only work God asks of you is to stop trying to save yourself and trust the only One who already has.

Genuine faith changes the way you live. Obedience naturally follows.

But obedience is the fruit of our faith, not the price of God's acceptance.

Trying to be enough is exhausting. Enough for God. Enough for everyone else. Enough for yourself.

Jesus isn't asking you to work harder.

He's inviting you to trust deeper.

The Christian life isn't built on everything you can do for Jesus.

It's built on everything Jesus has already done for you.

The cross proved it.

Check.

You are loved!
